Just got back from Bali, stayed five days at Rama Beach Cottages in Tuban. Had a wonderful time, most of what we gathered from this forum was correct. We had absolutely NO problems with hawkers or anyone else, a simple "no thanks" worked everytime. Kuta was hot and crowded but, after living in Korea, Japan, and the Philippines during the 1980's, it was not much different. Barginings can become a pain, but we found that when we got tired of it, we simply shopped at Mata Hari in Kuta and relaxed. We found excellent deals on both the streets and in the shops, especially in Mas....all people we met were polite, friendly and helpful, food was excellent, no Bali belly and most of all, we enjoyed every minute of our trip.
Only downside was the falling rate for the dollar, but come on, it dropped over one thousand Rp to the dollar so I think i can survive
the PDI convention began today, lots of crowds and lots of people, but while we were there, no trouble..hope that holds out...anyone wanting specific information or questions, feel free to email me...
