Thanks for your advice. I know exactly what you mean when you say it is made for tourists. This is going to be a holiday for my husband and I, testing our ability to compromise!! This is only our second trip together, other than our honeymoon last November. I don't really count that one as a "trip" because everything was so different because of the circumstances (I know that doesn't sound very good and I haven't explained that well).
You see, my husband hasn't done very much travelling in his life. Our wedding/honeymoon in Jamaica was the first time he had ever left North America. On the other hand, I have been to so many countries (Aust, NZ, Fiji, Raratonga, Mexico, Spain, Morocco, Tahiti........and the list goes on & on). I started when I was a crazy backpacking, crash where you can kinda gal. I've stayed in some extremely remote villages (ones that had never even seen a blonde girl before). My husband is used to 5+ star hotels with all the amenities to match. So, I guess our differences will really be put to the test. Unfortunately, he usually wins. Not because I give in to what he wants all the time. I think it is easier for someone like myself to adjust to a cushy resort holiday than for him to be thrown into a totally budget (my style) kinda trip. Do you know what I mean.
On this trip, we are staying in a really nice place (which will make him feel comfortable) but we are going to "adventure out" on several day trips to satisfy my holiday needs. At the same time, I'm sure he will get to love experiencing the REAL Bali.

P.S. At least we communicate very well together so I don't think there will be any problems/disagreements.
P.P.S. As for your comments on Hawaii, Gold Coast, Florida: I couldn't agree with you more!
Been there/done that and not ready to go back for awhile.
