I have recently stayed at both of these hotels. First the Bounty is more up market than the Barong, however the Barong has recently undergone renovations which now makes your stay more pleasant.
The bounty is full of young aussies and the location within walking distance to everything, has 2 pools. However watch and keep receipts for all purchases and room rates as they will try to rip you off when checking out. Had extreme problem with Bounty when checking out as they tried to rip us off by 3 days of payments. Must be firm and stick to your guns and dont crumble. Also be aware of whats in your fridge and what you consume as they will try to add on extra charges for things that you did not consume.
As for the Barong the Bounty ownes it. It has 2 pools the one at the back is large and very nice and open all night. Great for moonlight swim. The rooms are basic but clean and good. All have aircon, tv, and fridge. Location excellent and within rolling distance from the Sari club and Studebakers and other night life. Beware once again of whats in the fridge as they will definately try to charge for something. At the moment there is a big sign out the front of the Barong stating special room rate of US$25. However when you try to get this rate they say ++ which means add another 20%(GST).
Both of these places are good to stay but be wary.
Hope you have a good stay and have a bloody cold beer at the Bagus Pub
and ask for George. Be extremely careful when changing money.
