My husband and I just returned from two fantastic weeks in Bali and had the time of our lives. There is no shortage of things to do. We actually booked most of our accommodation over the net, before we left and this worked out really inexpensive and very satisfactorily. Here is a list of some of the great experiences that we had. 1. Hire a car and driver and go to Jimbaran bay for lunch, seafood done Balinese style for 4 poeple about $15AUD, on the beach under an umbrella, then go to the clifftop temple at Uluwatu, and see the monkeys and the amazing views. Then you could do as we did and hire a 4 wheel drive and drive yourself all over Bali. We went everywhere, The Bird Park would be great for the kids, they would, as we did , just love it. Also the water palace at Mengwi and lunch by the river would be great.
There is parasailing and jetskiing and sunset cruises, also a great bnabysitting deal at the HardRock Cafe in Legian where they will keep the kids occupied whilst you and the lady can go off and shop till you drop, clothes are a steal in Bali, you could outfit your kids for a year for pocket money!...We just enjoyed the Balinese poeple and lifestyle. If you want a realy inexpensive place to stay in Ubud, ik can highly reccommend the Honeymoon Bakehouse Guesthouse , which is run by an Aussie married to Balinese guy. She is amazig, has a restaurant, kindergarten, homewares shop and is building another restaurant. If it is as good as th first she will do well, the food is fantastic and cheap. It would cost you and the kids abou t$20 a night all up for accommodation and there is no prob with the kids running around and playing. Also there is a pool up the road where for a small fee the kids could swim. Don' forget the Balinese Dancing which the kdis would love, and this is on every night in Ubud in the temples and palaces there. The cost is is insignifigant. The market there is also excellent it is a day out in itself. Not far down the road from the market is the monkey forest which the kids would like. Take a drive north and you will see Balinese ladies making Batik, men making wood carvings etc. Go for walks around Ubud and see the rice paddies.. I could go on for ever but I owuld bore you to tears. The best way to find out what to do in Bali is keep an open mind and GO there. We had no problems of any sort, not even Bali Belly, altough we did only drink bottled Aqua, and washed our hands always, after going to the markets or handling any goods, before we ate. Good places to eat out are The Crown Cafe in Legian Street, owners name Wayun, very good and very cheap...The Terrace By the Sea 5 Star food but very reaonable....great desserts including lemon meringue pie....Aromas Vegetarian Resaurant in Legian Street, Fantastic Food and drinks, and of course Jane De Neefe's Casa Luna Resaurant in Ubud which has to be the best food in the world and the most reasonabley priced. Have a great time!
