We were probably on the same plane. Also there for my thirteenth time with wife and kids, fourth time this year and I agree with you totally (our first trip 1987). I agree with your comments about Logi. I now drive to Padang Sambian or Ubung (west denpasar) and get my groceries there. They seem more suprised to see a tourist than bother about the skimming on the Bill. Also Logi has made it millions over the years. I also seem to prefer getting basic items at small warungs around the traps.
Did you consider North Seminyak/Canggu ? Beaches quieter, just as good as surf, if not better and real slow pace. And now it really does not matter as to how far you are as 300 meters or 3 kilometers always seem to take half an hour in Jalan Legian. We left the car at home from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. and prefered to ferry the wife and kids on the motorbike, taking the short cut (Down the footpaths). Two trips ferrying wife and kids stilll quicker than car or taxi.
But you do make the point it is still a great place, and you are so right.
