1. rash vest, booties, leashes, wax, etc. are all imported and are more expensive than at home.
2. same for boards.
3. the best second hand board opportunities are to buy from visiting surfers who have overextended their finances and need to liquidate to pay the debts and get back home. Uluwatu is the most populous surf spot and the best place for such barters.
4. If you are used to riding a short board then I would forget the longboard. Most spots are better on a short board for a number of reasons: High performance waves; helpful to be able to duckdive to avoid getting dragged over reef; less bulky for air travel, car travel, boat travel, hiking down trails and into caves, etc.
5. I didn't but met a guy who overnighted at Uluwatu most nights. After dark, everyone leaves and you can sleep (open air) at one of the Warungs. I suggest the Green Iguana (owner, lady named Wayan). Green Iguana is perched directlly over cave next to lowest ding repair guys. Make friends with Wayan first, she's very nice. Heard the only hassle is sometimes the monkeys are noisy.
6. You might want your 6'10" and a second board around 7'6"-8'0" for the big days (if you are into big waves).

Have fun (hard not to).
