You can get excellent Rijsttafels in Holand, and even in Thailand (Dolf Riks' restaurant in Pattaya was great). Indonesia was never the place for it. This is not Indonesian, it's extremely colonial! Now more then ever.

A classical Rijsttafel was only prepared for the Dutch bosses which means you get served 6 or 8 dishes containing beef, chicken, prawns, fish, eggs, various vegetables, and at least two kinds of rice, plus a number of pickels vegetables and sambals.

In Indonesia, this is today always disappointing. It's not Indonesian style. The number of different dishes is too much to prepare for a normal house wife, and even the restaurant owners never learned how to do it.

Stick to your good memories from Holland.
