This is a tough call. We spent 12 days in Bali and 3 weeks in Thailand and required more time to "see it all" at both areas. The temples in Thailand are fabulous and we loved Ko Samui. The Balinese are exceptionally friendly and Bali has lovely scenery. Phuket and Kuta beaches are similar in that they are inhabited primarily by tourists.
I suggest you flip a coin and visit one country this year and plan a vacation in the other at another time!
