I've been to Singapore about 7 or 8 times altogether. The restaurant at the top of the Westin Stamford is excellent. If you would like something special but not pay a fortune I would suggest booking for their 'High Tea'. They have a full smorgasbord of local and western delicacies and the views on a clear day are brilliant. You might like to check out the revolving restaurant at the top of the Pan Pacific Hotel as well. Happy Hour at the top of the Mandarin is worth a thought too.
It is lovely walking around the boat quay (near where the Satay Club is - just ask the taxi to take you to the Satay Club). There are lots of little stalls plus an airconditioned centre with restaurants etc. On Saturdays they have a flea market there until about 4.30 pm.
If you would like to do some shopping, Orchard Road has become extremely expensive. Great to browse at designer stuff. I found an excellent Department store called 'Mustafi Centre' at Little India.
This area is not upmarket and it is rare to see many tourists there. Going to this store is an experience in itself. It is run by some older indian men who speak little english. The store is bulging at the seams with goods. There is a lower basement with electrical goods, basement with all manner of clothing, ground floor with gold jewellery, cosmetics, stereos, small electrical and first floor with grocery store, manchester, luggage. You name it they have it. Their prices were the best I found in Singapore. I walked Singapore to find the best bargains for perfume and at the end of my trip found this Department store had the cheapest and best. You definitely have to check out their watches and intricate gold doilies and homewares on the first floor.
To buy goods at this store you pick out what you want and the sales clerk will give you a piece of paper. After you have finished you take the piece of paper to the cashier in the middle of the store and pay for the goods. Take the receipt back to the cashier who will give you the goods.
A ferry ride from the World Trade Centre to Sentosa Island makes a nice day and is half price for the evening. You could take a taxi to the top of Mt Faber which has excellent views and catch a cable car across to the island and then catch a ferry back to the World Trade Centre if you wanted. It is easier to get a taxi back if you go to the World Trade Centre instead of Mt Faber. Catch the monorail around the island and you can get on and off as you please. If you go they have a musical fountain and laser light show every half hour in the evenings which is definitely worth seeing. It is much cheaper if you do this on your own than take a tour. Sentosa has a lot of attractions and is a peaceful change from the bustle of Singapore.
Hope this has helped - I hope you have a great time in Singapore.
