I just love this place it's a little way out of Ubud but only a 20 minute walk or so - tip walk into Ubud and get a bemo home (it's VERY uphill all the way). It is really worthwhile upgrading to a superior upstairs room at Ananda - you get the evening breezes in the room and they have a lot more natural light the downstairs rooms can be a little dingy. They have a nice small swimming pool next to the rice fields and the staff are just lovely. The restaurant has some great traditional balinese food if you order 24 hours in advance the Bebek Tutu is fantastic and they have a traditional balinese satay (very different from the standard satay sold more commonly) which is also great. When I last stayed there they organised a day trip for me to the health spa at the Chedi - US$90 sheer indulgence but some of the best money I've ever spent - massage, reflexolody, aromatherapy, facial and a lovely outdoor spa bath with oils as I said sheer indulgence. Ubud is a great place to base yourself for travel around the countryside. I can't remember the ladies name but she was the head waitress in the restaurant (has been there for years) and her husband ran private tours. (someone always knows someone who can be a guide). Went out with him 2-3 times he was very reasonably priced, spoke english well and we felt very comfortable with him. Of course his name was Nyoman! Once again I can't recommend Ananda enough has a great feel about the place. Have a great time!
