I stayed there six times (>= 4 weeks each) inner the last 11 years and as I try to overcome my 7-hour time difference as soon as possible I accomodate immediatly to food the locals eat (except ice cream and unboiled water). At these small stalls (kaki lima), warung, rumah makan )especially looking to which many balinese people go, since they know best where everything is OK) I never got problems(exceprt those mild ones, which always arise if changing to very different cooking). The only problems we meet were 3 ( of four!) times when my wife wanted to go to a GOOD (= normally expensive and exclusively touristic) restaurant. My wife felt very bad. Don't drink cold during the day. Coffee, tea and (not cold!) bottled water during the heat. I feel many get sick because of the cold drinks. And (no joke) since seafood restaurants seem so cheap, the unusual high amount of lobster consumed can evoke a protein shock (the next day you'll always like to know first where the next restroom is :-)). So don't worry too much, balinese people themselves have a very sensitive stomach, so were they eat it's clean. Ask one of them for the best baksoe, babi guling, sate kambing, etc. and they will provide you with reliable information if they (usually surprised) got it that you like THEIR food.
All this my personal experience. I know there are other reports.
Bon appetit
