Bali is what you make it. If you found it expensive, then that is your problem. For my part Bali is one of the cheapest places to stay, eat and buy casual clothing. The sights are magnificent. You complain of it being hot. Didn't you look at the map before you went to find out where it was. Why don't you try the Falklands for a holiday. Not so friendly - Where did you go, stay and eat - I cannot believe that anyone could say the place is unfriendly. We are shortly going back for the 1oth time, we always stay on the Legian - Tuban side of the island, where the restaurants and shopping are great.
It's a great place. From your description, you must have had a 3 hour stopover at the airport because you certainly are not describing the real Bali.
