The hotel section has been fully renovated following a fire a few years ago. It is the tallest hotel on Bali. After the completion of the building, a law was passed preventing any building from exceeding the height of a coconut tree. It is on the east side of the island at Sanur, where life is a bit quieter than Kuta (now known as Tuban)and Legian.
It is also not as upmarket as the Nusa Dua area. Basically, if you have never been to Bali before, it is a good place to start. We stayed at Sanur on our first visit and thought it was a bit quiet. Since then we have stayed at places in Legian, Tuban and Ungasan. I think that you will enjoy the Grand Bali Beach, particularly on your honeymoon. The sand is a cleaner looking colour on the east side of the island. (It is not dirty on the other side, I just think that it may contain a portion of pulverised lava).
Prior to the renovations it used to be known as the Bali Beach Hotel.
