The locals have got into the bad habit of cheating tourists, whenever they can, particularly in regards to money.
If you change, say $A100 and the exchange rate is 1800Rp, you need to check that you get 180,000Rp and not 108,000Rp. It is fairly common to receive 10 x 10,000Rp notes and then 8 x 1000Rp notes instead of 18 x 10,000Rp notes. Watch them carefully, and don't listen to the "sorry, I make mistake" line.
There is also a tendency for the local shops to charge commission now.
