The best part about diving in Bali was the fact that the tour guides drive you half the way around the island for free. You get to see huge parts of Bali that you may have otherwise paid a driver for, or a tour operator. I used a place called Gloria Maris but this was many years ago. The Kuta tourism office could give you their number. I don't remember what they charged, but it was cheap. They will pick you up early at your hotel, drive you half way around the island. Carry all your gear for you, give you a box lunch and have you home by dinner. This can be a long day so take snacks and drink. That's a full day's tour for the price of a pair of dives. The sunken Liberty ship at Tulamben was a great drive and a wreck dive. Mengangen Island on the N.W. side is a wall dive. The best fun I had was at Padang Bai (which I hear is the new place like Kuta used to be long ago). On this dive we went out in two outrigger canoes near a rock island called Eagle Rock, or something, because of the eagle that always sits on top. The photos of ourselves on the dive always get oohs and ahhs from those looking in my phot album.

You will see lots of soft coral, sponges and sea fans. And the biggest meanest looking trigger fish you've ever seen (who eat bananas if you take some down).

Have fun

James
