We have been to Bali 5 times now & are going again in August. I have found that if travelling from Europe, fly to Singapore then buy a ticket from there to Bali it is much cheaper. S/pore Airlines S$630 return & Garuda S$460 return.
Accomodation is inexpensive & can be done when you arrive. Get a bemo (taxi) from the airport to Mata Hari Supermarket Kuta there is lots of accomodation around this area, book in for a couple of nights while you check the place out & maybe you'll find something else for the rest of your stay.
