is a small island off of the west coast of Lombok, the next major island to the east of Bali.
to get there you can take a fast boat (I like Blue Water Express or Gili Gili Fast Boat) which takes around 2.5 hours from Serangan (close to Sanur) or just over an hour from Padang Bai (near Candi Dasa).
the island itself is small - you can walk around it in about 2 hours. there are no motorised vehicles on the island, so you have to rely on bicycles or horse drawn carts (called Cidomo).
there is plenty of hotels to choose from but Villa Ombak and Ombak Sunset are the two biggest ones.
food is good - Scallywags is probably the better of the restaurants on the island.
there are bars and pubs open all day and there is live music in the evenings.
very safe. the locals are lovely.
