If you are going to the Gilis I would recommend a fast boat from Bali if you are in a hurry but, if you have plenty of time and are on a budget the local ferry is an interesting experience and quite cheap. If you choose to fly, the actual flying time is very short but by the time you have negotiated airports at both ends and travelled to and from, it can take almost as long as travelling by fast boat.
