There is no problem giving them your 3 digit secret number...this is normal for most online transactions and it proves that you are actually in possession of that card.
Some credit cards still have numbers on the back...what you never do is show or give them ALL the numbers on both the front and back...giving them the last 3 is ok or if there is only 3 numbers on the back then that is also ok to give them...I have several c/cards some only have 3 numbers on the back some have 7
