I returned from Bali this month.

I had travel insurance with ICover which covered me for accidents on scooters. I have a valid IDP and an Australian motorcycle license.

I was offered insurance from the hirer, which covered damage to the bike with an excess of $US300. I refused this insurance as it is easy to estimate the cost of repairs to be over $300 and then claim $300 from the tourist and pay the local Bengkel $40 to fix the bike.
