Yes we put our iphones onto flight mode and just used wifi free in every hotel and most restaurants, we used a cheap bali sim in an old nokia from home, but i worked out that Simpati" card is the best to call australia if u dial 01000 before the 61 for australia if u buy the "XL" card its crap only get 1 minute for 10,000rp
