the town houses simply reminds me of an upper market inner city Sydney housing commission block.

When I go to Bali the last thing I want to do is spend all my time in a condominium listening to bigger loud mouthed Australians than I am. (The softly spoken Baldie excluded!)

I prefer to stay in a more Balinese environment were I have the biggest and loudest mouth.
