have flown to Europe & I have to stop in a European country in transit (which is what I have to do in Jakarta in this case to return to Sydney) I don't have to another departure tax to leave my European transit stop. The tax is paid once & determined by the final destination (ie international or domestic), not your transit stops.
Geez, if I had to pay a departure stop at every transit stop on my way to Europe, I'd have to pay up about 4 times!
As for the Australian levies, they are not all called 'departure tax' at any stage. They are clearly labelled out as levies & what they are for & you do not pay extra again, if you stop somewhere in Australia as a transit. They are also not hidden, they are clearly displayed & itemised on your invoice.
