whilst doing a lap of the island on a scooter:-
1. If it is bigger than you it has right of way. There is no exception to this rule.
2. What the driver of the oncoming truck, completely blocking your lane and overtaking the truck in his lane means as he flashes his lights, is that he is handing over the resolution of the present situation to you and braking very hard and heading towards the rice paddy to your left is strongly recommended.
3. The speed limit is as fast as you can go.
4. The white line in the centre of the road is actually a ceremony decoration.
5. There is no limit to the number of oncoming motorbikes that can overtake each other at the same time. If you are lucky, you may be left the width of the white line on the left hand side of the road.
6. A red traffic light is merely a suggestion to stop.
7. Those flashing hazzard lights in the general chaos ahead of you indicates there is indeed a hazzard. Your challenge is to find it before it finds you.
8.Two fifty something Aussies with backpacks on a Honda Vario, while not common, is not unusual compared to a good sized live pig, trussed with bamboo poles and tied to the back of a scooter, caually looking at the passing scenery. Or a billy goat with full sized horns and nuts, in the lap of a scooter passenger. The goat seemingly relaxed about its situation. Or a pillion passenger holding a forty four gallon drum.
9. After 14 days, about 600kms and $10 worth of petrol, a Honda Vario is a mighty fine riding machine.
