although agreeing with Hoolz that Masa is a nice hotel and it is very good value for single occupancy, I think in your case, cheaper again may fit the bill better. I am guessing that you are in a younger age group but may be quite wrong on that. If so suggest you book 2 nights at Masa Inn in Poppies 1 and then look around at all the little backpacker type places called losmen, homestay or guesthouse. These are where backpackers from all counties tend to stay and from my observation are very friendly. They typically cost around Rp.250,000 per night including a simple breakfast.
If you are older then the friendliest hotels I ever stayed in are in Sanur. Sanur Beach Villas near Mertari Beach on Jln. Tirta Empul and The Ugly Duckling in the centre of Sanur on Jln. Danau Tamblingan. These are from Rp.350,000 per night with a good breakfast.
I should admit up front that the owners of both the Sanur Hotels are friends of mine. However I only met them when I stayed there and over the years they have become friends so I do not promote them because of friendship but because I really like staying there!
