of info from this list which was listed by Madame Pie a few years back
Chez
But, firstly, the tailor that I used (on recommendations from the forum) was:
Janoko
Poppies Lane II
KUTA
Ph: 0361 753230
Located close to the Jl Legian end of Poppies II, on the left hand side (walking from Jl Legian) and situated between Batu Bolong and Barong Cottages.
Absolutely brilliant! The range of fabrics is superb - everything from batik to linen to easy-care poly in an amazing array of colours. Quality of fabric and construction is first-rate and I'm only sorry I didn't have more work done (always next time...!)
The owner, Lisa, is truly professional and the prices are more than reasonable. I brought three of my own fave garments to be copied and selected a variety of fabrics for:
10 sleeveless tops
5 wide leg pants (comfy elastic + drawstring waist with pockets)
3 long, loose babydoll (short sleeve) style tops - could be dresses on someone with better legs!
Total cost - 1 900 000 - which I was more than happy with (original quote was 2 300 000).
Animale Factory Outlet
Loved it! I was at the extreme end of the size range (size 6) and would have bought loads more if it had fit. Much more on offer in a size 5 - to fit around an Aus 18 - and heaps more again in a size 4 (Aus 16). Extremely well priced and unusual designs, without being over-the-top.
Purchased a fab jacket (115 000rp) and crop pants (109 000rp) set, a sleeveless asymmetrical top (79 000rp) and same with sleeves (85 000rp) in the Animale label and a Jacques Ruc layered dress (119 000).
Becky Shop
Jl Legian 363
LEGIAN
Located right next door to the Secret Garden Spa - starting at Jl Melasti it's a couple of hundred metres down Jl Legian on the right hand side (in a laneway).
Lots of goodies here! All fixed price - they stock much in the way of dyed crinkle rayon. Some lovely 3 piece suits. I purchased two dresses - a basic long purple tie-dye with a cutaway back (140 000rp) and a fabulous long layered dress that is difficult to describe, but the top layer can be pulled up and buttoned to the shoulders for a draped effect (250 000rp).
Plenty to fit my size... and some garments up to approx Aus 26.
There was also a shop across the laneway selling plus size garments - forget the name, but worth a look.
*******
B.I.G. Australia
Jl Sahadewa 11
LEGIAN
Ph: 361-759920
Situated in what is better known as ‘Garlic Lane', a couple of blocks up from the Jl Melasti end, on the beach side of the street.
Fixed, reasonable prices and a size range up to 6XL - some good basics, but overall a little ‘sensible' for my personal taste. I did, however pick up a lovely long duster coat in olive green (96 000rp) and the freebie calico bag for your purchases is a nice touch.
*******
Jalibu Bali
Jl Sadehadewa 11
LEGIAN
Ph: 081 338317480 (mobile)
Also in Garlic lane - if you stand facing the B.I.G shop Jalibu is in an open-air arcade directly to the left (on the left hand side of the arcade).
Not a lot of stock when we were there (some stock appeared to go to about an Aus 24) - but I picked up a knee length dress and a sleeveless top, both in plain black crinkle rayon - 120 000rp for the two. They also have some really large men's tees (bigger, but not as good quality as we found later).

Also in Garlic Lane was a shop selling a good range of plus sized garments (forgotten the name, but managed to get part of it in a photo ‘***rai Shop' - run by a Ketut... but not the famed Ketut's fixed price shop).
From the Jl Melasti end it was around 100 metres along, on the right hand side (directly opposite Our's Bar and Restaurant).
Crinkle rayon dresses, tops, sleeveless tops, shifts, wide and basic leg pants, shorts. Dresses to fit to Aus 20. Separates to approx Aus 24. Decent quality fabric, OK construction... immovable seller. Wouldn't budge from 1.2 million on ten pieces - reasoned I could do better than this for the same quality in Aus. She let me walk...

Magi Shop
Jl Pantai Kuta 51
KUTA
Heading from Kuta Square to the beach along Jl Pantai Kuta it's on the left hand side (almost opposite Starbucks).
Similar range (though not as much) to the shop above... similar prices also (which, compared to the prices to have custom made at Janoko, I couldn't justify).
*******
Divine Diva
Jl Raya Seminyak
SEMINYAK
Ph: 0361 731903
Umm, not great with describing where this is - heading from Kuta end it's not as far up as the Bintang Supermarket (on the same side of the street).
Fixed price - quite a bit in plus sizes... some great free-size swimsuit cover-ups (50 000rp) and also purchased a big turquoise top (150 000).
*******
Paul Ropp
Jl Raya Seminyak
SEMINYAK
A little further north from Devine Diva (same side of the street) but not as far as Bintang Supermarket.
Limited plus range to approx an Aus 18 - really unusual styles (beaded, sequinned) with prices to match. Fixed price - all in US$... and much over US$100.
*******
Jacques Ruc
Jl Raya Seminyak 54/56
SEMINYAK
Ph: 6172 734
Continue further up the street from shops above, past the Bintang Supermarket, across Jl Dhyana Pura intersection and it's on the opposite side of the street (not the beach side, if that makes sense!)
Beautifully laid out shop, attentive staff, fabulous aircon! Again, I was at the top of the size range (size 6 - same as Animale) but much more on offer in that size here.
Fixed price - plenty of coordinating separates, some of which was a bit ‘out-there' (eg. lime green + burgundy patterns together... are you getting the picture?) but others that were downright elegant. Many matching accessories and shoes.
Gorgeous black, intricately beaded dress (595 000rp).
*******
Another ‘no name' shop on the opposite side of the street from Jacques Ruc and further north along Jl Raya Seminyak. Sells only garments made of really loose knit rayon yarn (Aus Autumn weight - quite stretchy). Purchased 2 long throwovers with sleeves in black and brown at 70 000rp each and a long purple open poncho at 60 000rp.

Didn't look for swimwear in Bali, as I'd purchased some fabulous plus size swimdresses from a seller on eBay Australia before our trip - store name is Rubensque's and they do sizes 14-36. The swimsuits were an absolute bargain and I would have been lost without them on this holiday!
*******
There were other shops selling plus sizes that I'd seen mentioned on the forum that we didn't make it to (but you can use the search box to find the original posts):
- Seashellgirl
- Chitra
- Blush Deluxe
- The Loft
- Yanthi Clothing
- Debby's Shop
- Ketut's fixed price (disappointed we didn't get to this one!)
- Kuta Art Market - Shop 111 - Nyoman's
- Juwita Moon
One shop that I'd looked for was ‘Daya'... but it has, unfortunately, closed in Kuta and Seminyak.
Don't even try the department stores (Matahari, Centro) if you're looking for plus sizes if you don't want to be disappointed :-(
Phew... that was a biggie! And I'd nearly forgot the most fashionable and accessible plus size garment in Bali - the sarong!!! Find a size that's right and use it to check against all others (as I did manage to bring home a couple of skinny ones!) and also check that the hems are finished.
Well, I feel much better for having bared my soul on the forum (it's much more attractive than baring my bum, I can assure you!)
Matur suksme to everyone who has been so encouraging... I hope the wait for ‘Big Bums in Bali' was worth it!
Cheers,
Madame Pie
