I do not have experience that you enquire about but I use a Telkomsel Simpati 3G card in my 3G mobile phone and connect the phone to my laptop using the usb connection. I then use the phone as modem. This works very well and is economical. The Simpati card has to be turned on for 3G via one sms message to 3636 and also have "flash" turned on with another sms to 3636. The instructions for this are on Telkomsel website but are in Indonesian! Link below.
