Hospital staff will sometimes go ahead and operate if the condition is well and truly life threatening and they no they'll get paid at the end of the day. But unfortunately they just can't go ahead and treat people knowing that they'll be the ones footing the bill and fighting for a refund with insurance companies refusing to pay.
