Hi Vectra,
I visited my sponcer child for the first time last year. I sponcer him through the Helen Flavel Foundation. I pay $120.00 per year which pays for his education. My mum and myself went to the school first and was shown around the school by Mr John It was school holidays so none of the children where there which was a shame.
Mr John came with us as you are not allowed to visit your child without someone from the foundation being there. I agree with this and also he can explain things to you and it helps when trying to communicate with the family.
We then went to the markets and bought some food for the family. This is optional but i choose to do this and then onto the family home. The little boy was very shy but we had a nice talk with the family and they appreciated our donations. I also took a back pack for the little boy with special things in it for him such as a towel, toothbush, comb, hat and a couple of toys. I also got a few plastic cups and things for the kitchen for his mum.
Its quite funny when the whole extended family turns up.
I don't know who you sponcer your child through but Helen does a wonderfull job with her foundation. Very professional and a pleasure to deal with.
Hope you have a nice time.
Regards, Leonie
